Fraunhofer Gesellschaft

Fraunhofer-Gesellshaft is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization, with more than 22,000 staff members, more than 66 research institutes, an annual research budget of 1.9 billion euro and 10 Offices & Project Centers in Americas and Asia Pacific.

In December 2013, a Collaboration Agreement was signed between University of Bologna and Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.

Purposes are:

  • to set up an innovation and industrial research center to help the regional and the italian industry to overcome the present crisis;
  • to respond to the industry needs, proposing solutions to meet the challenges of the future;
  • to join German technology and scientific competencies from the University;
  • to establish a permanent exchange of personnel;
  • to establish a common doctoral programme.

The operative structures of the Agreement are the Interdepartmental Center for Research in Environmental Science  (CIRSA), the Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Research - Energy Environment (CIRI-EA) and the Fraunhofer-Institute for Environmental, Safety, and Energy Technology UMSICHT, Institute Branch Sulzbach-Rosenberg.
